ARCHITECTURAL TYPOLOGY AND DISTRIBUTION OF MAIN HOUSES IN THE KISOHIRASAWA IMPORTANT PRESERVATION DISTRICT FOR GROUPS OF TRADITIONAL BUILDINGS

In this study, the townhouses in historical district of Kiso-Hirasawa, Nagano, Japan, were classified according to their rooms’ configuration and kitchen location. They have tori-doma (earthen floor), rooms are usually arranged order mise, okatte (kitchen), zashiki. modern times, however, is often built back. Looking at distribution typologies, we can see that while many traditional typologies remain Nakamachi, ones found other areas. This analysis by architectural typology an effective means for observing transformation urban spaces.
